Dhaka, March 26 – Popular and versatile actor Fazlur Rahman Babu is set to appear in a new role. In the film Mastul, directed by Mohammad Nuruzzaman, he plays the role of a cook on an oil tanker.

The Story and Characters of Mastul
The film’s central character, cook Mokbul, encounters a homeless child, Noora, at a port. Over time, they develop a deep bond. When Mokbul takes Noora on board as his assistant, conflicts arise between him and the ship’s crew. The film was shot on a moving vessel along the Narayanganj port, Shitalakshya, and Meghna rivers.
Other important roles in the film are played by Deepak Suman, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Zulfikar Chanchal, Shikdar Mukit, and child actor Arif.

Director and Actor’s Perspectives
Regarding his role, Fazlur Rahman Babu said,
“The story is wonderful! My character is unique, with elements of emotion, conflict, and relationships. I hope the audience will love the film.”
Director Mohammad Nuruzzaman mentioned that the film explores themes of power struggles.
“We wanted to portray how one person can exert inhumane control over others on a ship. Fazlur Rahman Babu’s character drives the entire story,” – said the director.
Festival Screenings and Release Plans
Director Mohammad Nuruzzaman grew up in the port area of Narayanganj, where he closely observed the lives of oil tanker workers. Drawing from these experiences, he created Mastul.
The film received clearance from the Film Certification Board on March 24. After being screened at several international film festivals, it is expected to be released in theaters across Bangladesh by the end of this year.
