‘Did you enter acting for cars and property?’ Ressi questions Barsha

Actress Barsha recently announced her decision to quit acting. She mentioned that she still has a few projects left, which she will complete before bidding farewell to the showbiz industry. According to Barsha, the thought of how her children will perceive her as an actress once they grow up led her to the decision to step away from acting.

Following her announcement, a lot of discussion and criticism has arisen in the showbiz world. In particular, actresses from the Dhaka film industry have not received Barsha’s comments well. Porimoni has sharply criticized her and also made a post on Facebook regarding the matter.

Now, actress Mridula Ahmed Ressi has posted a rebuttal on Facebook, criticizing Barsha’s statement. Sharing a photo with her children, Ressi wrote, “In my small life, I have achieved many things such as winning a beauty pageant, earning countless awards in dance competitions, including a gold medal, and acting in 50 films. However, I may not have received as much recognition for those achievements. But when my children come home from school and say, ‘Mamma, our teachers, our friends, they praise us a lot because our mother is an actress.’ They feel proud that their mother is an actress. They can even find our mother on Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia.”

Ressi further wrote, “Madam, you haven’t done anything immoral that you should feel ashamed about what your children will think when they grow up. So, I would say that you didn’t love acting, but you took it up for cars, property, and wealth.”

Ressi posed some questions, writing, “According to your statement, should all the great artists in the acting world with children also feel ashamed? If so, why have they worked for so many years? You could have provided another reason for leaving acting. The general public already doesn’t hesitate to speak ill of us, and now you’ve added fuel to the fire!”

In her post, Ressi emphasized working with sincerity, writing, “We Muslims embrace our religion and will never deny the source of our achievements or recognition. We should do our work and profession with sincerity.”

Ressi started her media career after winning the Goalini Binodon Bichitra Championship in 2003. She made her film debut in ‘Neel Anchol’ in 2004, directed by Bulbul Zilani. She went on to appear in nearly 30 films, including notable works like F I Manik’s ‘Ek Zaban’, ‘Swami Bhagya’, and Montazur Rahman Akbar’s ‘Amar Swapno Amar Ahongkar’. After the pandemic, Ressi moved to the United States with her family, where she is spending time with them.
