Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is in advanced discussions with acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan for a period-action thriller set between the 1970s and 1990s.

Salman Khan is presently preparing for his upcoming film Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. The project will depict the untold story of the Galwan Valley clash, with the actor scheduled to travel to Ladakh later this month for a 30-day shoot.
While gearing up for this high-profile project, Salman is simultaneously meeting directors to finalise his next venture. According to reliable sources, the actor has held four to five meetings with Mahesh Narayanan, the most recent of which took place in Mumbai last week.
The Film in Discussion
A source close to the development revealed:
“Salman Khan and Mahesh Narayanan have been brainstorming multiple concepts. Salman has now given his nod to a period-action thriller set between the 1970s and 1990s. Mahesh will soon return to present a complete narration.”
The insider added that discussions are at an advanced stage, with Salman expressing strong interest in the project, especially as it takes him beyond his comfort zone.
“Whether it’s Galwan or Mahesh Narayanan’s directorial, Salman is now seeking genres that challenge him. We expect complete clarity on the Mahesh Narayanan project before the end of this year,” the source stated.
Other Collaborations in the Pipeline
In addition to talks with Mahesh Narayanan, Salman is also in discussions with Kabir Khan.
“They are exploring a range of ideas, with a clear intent to collaborate again. The discussions span multiple genres – from a stylish action thriller to a high-octane drama, and, of course, the much-anticipated Bajrangi Bhaijaan sequel,” the source revealed.
The source further commented on the Mahesh Narayanan project:
“It’s a role in a setting Salman has never explored before. At the moment, things are looking positive for this collaboration.”
Possible Timeline
Salman Khan is expected to continue shooting Galwan until November or December 2025. Meanwhile, Mahesh Narayanan will be completing his Malayalam film commitments. Should the collaboration be finalised, production on the period thriller is expected to commence in 2026.
